Second run of the day. Not too bad. Hot out, but felt good. Ankle felt okay, but calf/achilles is a little tight. Unlike when my knee was all buggy, these injuries don't feel like they could be causing long term damage - more or less just annoyances.

Hartland Loop 7/30

Got my long run in a little later in the day than I wanted to, but... Got out at 4:00 and ran through some heat. Had to stop about 40:00 in to retie my huraches. Pretty sure I've got it figured it out now. When I tie the knot I need to wrap the extra length around my ankle it needs to go with the knot. That way it stays tight.

Right ankle is a little sore, not sure why. Might be work, might be the shoes at work. Ankle was sore to in the beginning of the day, long before the run.

Ankle was a bit sore after the drive to Boston and I definitely felt it on my long run. I'm also chalking up the ankle pain to the drive, and not the long run... Two decent Q workouts. The 800s were hard as always, but the threshold was pretty easy, too fast too. Overall feeling pretty good. Looking forward to getting some races in. Wore the huraches for the T-pace workout. Tightened them down pretty good and had no problems going for 40 minutes at 5:56 pace. Hoping to wear them for the CHaD.

Saturday afternoon we're driving out for Great Papa's 90th birthday. Doesn't mean much except that we'll have to go for our stroller run early on. Going to keep the mileage where it is. Maybe stabilize at 55, then in a couple weeks bump to 60+ then come back down. Gotta keep an eye on my ankle. Think it's the driving, but it might be other things. At it's worst it's easily bearable so...

No long drive this weekend so we'll see if it was the long run or the car ride that buggered it up. Little Guy fell asleep and I didn't feel like doing the same old loop so we went back by the park and made the loop a little longer. Faster, too.

Got my threshold workout in. Weather was nice. Not too hot, though a little humid. Lots of black flies some in the mouth some in the eyes.

Was supposed to be around 6:01 pace, ended up being a bit faster. First mile went fast, then the next few at 6:00. The last couple of miles got quicker by the lap. Hammered the last lap in 76. Not necessarily the best way to do things but...

Was going to do a threshold workout today, but wanted to give the ankle a bit of a break and did an R workout instead. Not sure it was easier on the ankle, but... 200s were easy, 800s were a killer. Got them done, but they were hard. Overall, pretty good workout. Ankle doesn't feel half as bad as the other day. Pretty sure it was the drive that buggered it up. Calves a little tight, but not awful.

Another good week. Brother Coach was out for two days so it was nice to have someone to do a workout with. Did part of my workouts on the track barefoot. Huraches will work for some track stuff, but not really sure they're any good past 5:20 pace. Will see after my next R workout. Right ankle is a bit stiff but much less than last week. Feeling good.

4x(800/1000)@I 7/20

Good workout. Was going to do 8/9x800s, then decided maybe I should do 1000s. Decided to do a mix of 800/1000s. Was supposed to be at 5:20 pace, they all ended up being quicker, except for one 800 that was a second slow. Heart rate dipped down after the start except for the last 1000 which was fast anyway. Did half the workout barefoot, the other half in huraches. Knot almost blew-out on my left hurache.

Nice 3x3200 workout. Was debating doing my 800@I tonight, but Brother Coach and I decided to do the 3200s instead. Rest ended up being closer to three minutes than two, but things went well. Feet and ankles feel good. Wore huraches for the first two, felt pretty good. 5:50 pace wasn't too fast.

Brook-Marton 7/16

Long run after work. Ankle felt sore. Had to wear shoes at work and think that had something to do with it. Wore my homemade huraches and my left foot feels fine. No bruising. Think it was the tight toe strap. It felt a little sore yesterday when I wore the Lunas.

Something happened to my heart rate in the beginning. Not sure if it was a computer malfunction or if something funky was going on with my heart rate, but it shot up to 199 for a while.

At the end of the day I feel pretty good. Really tried to bend my knees more and work on my barefoot form...

Good week for the most part. Decided to do my long run in the R3s, which prove to be a bad idea as my ankle got all sore and buggered up again. Made a new pair of huraches that are a little thicker than the Lunas so hopefully that gives my left foot some protection on that bruise. Did my i-pace barefoot. Felt okay. 1200s were on pace, but it was fast. Small blood blister on my toe...

Friday the 13th I-Fartlek 4/3

Good workout today. Another hot one, but felt pretty good. I was going to do the workout over at LRDT, but the loop is shorter than I would have wanted, and no way I would have been able to hit those times. Maybe for my long run next week I'll tag some on there...

Did 5x1200/600. Four minute 12s, three minute 6s. The recoveries actually went a little longer - closer to 3:10 and the 12s were all at 3:58 except the last. Heart rate dropped to 135 for the recoveries and was right at 168 for the 12s. I was pretty surprised at how consistent it was. Though still not sure what it all means...

Tried the huraches for a couple strides, but they didn't feel right so went barefoot. Felt fine, small blister on my toe. Think I bruised my left foot. See how it recovers. Work tomorrow night.

Ladder 7/11

Was second guessing whether or not I was going to do my fartlek or my r-pace today. Opted for the r-pace. Friday's supposed to be hotter so figured the woods would be better. Ankle felt fine, little full, but no tweaking. Wore my new homemade huraches for the warm-up. Took me a minute to figure out the proper lacing technique, but they feel comfortable - not feeling the rope between my toes.

I kind of came up with this workout on a whim. It was supposed to be 35/40@t, but wanted to get some quicker r-pace stuff in. When I was making it up, it looked tough and I figured it would be enough. As it was the back to back 800s were tough. I remember in GA having a hard time hitting my 800 r-pace stuff. Today was a lot easier. Not sure if I didn't do enough, but I tagged on an extra 400/200 at the very end.
Workout went 200/400/800/800/400/200/200/400/800/400/200. Recovery was an easy jog of equal distance except for the 800 where I ran a 400.

Guest Hill 7/9

Couple of things going on today... Work last night with no sleep. Took a 2.5 hour nap this morning. Also did my long run in shoes. Not sure if it's the lack of sleep, or the shoes that killed me, but my knees hurt and my ankle is all buggered up again. It doesn't seem to bother me in the huraches, but my foot was still feeling a little tender and I know if I did 11+ in the huraches I'd be regretting it tomorrow. I really need to figure this out because running in shoes is apparently making my ankle pretty sore. Not happy.

About seven miles in, I chomped down a piece of pemmican just to see how it would go. Washed it down with some water and felt fine. No cramps or anything. Not sure if it helped or not, but definitely didn't hurt.

CHaD Revised plan calls for 40@T, but I'm feeling like it's a little early for that. I have pretty good endurance, and so I'm going to switch it up and do an R workout instead.

Another easy stroller run to wrap the week up. The little guy was pretty tired/cranky, but once we got moving he was fine. Little rain towards the end felt good. Tried to keep my heart rate up, but pushing the stroller is slow going. I'd love to get him back in the actual jogging stroller and see how that fairs. I think half of the slow pace is based on how fast that stroller will go and less how much effort it takes to push - though the two seem like they should be related...

Hewett-Hunt 7/5

Was going to do a family 3, but ended up not doing that and going for a long run instead. Took the Hewett-Hunt Loop. Felt pretty good. Little tightness in my right calf. Nothing serious. Longest run I've done in the Huraches. Last time my left foot was a little sore around mile 5, today it got sore around mile 8 and I did five earlier so... I think it might be the rocks in the road bruising my foot, but not really sure. Kept my HR at around 130/140 except for some big hills I hit 160 on the top, but it came right back down after that.

Independence Day 6x1600

Nice 6x1600 to start the day. CHaD season plan called for 5 or 6. 6 was really easy. Probably could have done a lot more at that pace, even more if I had hit my goal pace... Threshold for VDOT 61 was 5:50, the slowest was 5:46 and after that it was 5:43. Did the first two in my Killkennys but left my socks at home... Blister from 400s decided to blow up again so I did the last four barefoot. Not too bad on the track, but was a little worried the wet track would eat up my feet. Didn't. Got a blood blister on the end of a toe, but no biggy. Want to figure out the heart rate thing, see where it falls.

12x400 7/1

First workout of the CHaD season. Felt pretty good despite the heat. Was going to go earlier, but went at nap time. Wanted to do the 1600TT, but wasn't up to it between the heat and the lack of sleep. Think I'll do mile repeats Wednesday and the TT Friday evening.

Did 12x400 today. First workout in a long time at a VDOT of 61. Said I should be doing 74 400s which seemed a bit fast to me, but as it turned out was totally doable. Could have slowed down for a fair bit of them. Ended up doing about 2:05-2:20 for the recovery. Dumped water on my head after everyone. Did the last recovery with my eyes closed, then went and laid in the stream before I finished my cool-down. Wasn't as hot as GA 1500s at 100, but still pretty damn hot, especially on that track.
