Was going to do SSSB, but didn't have the mileage. Ankle felt tired today, but iced it and it felt better. Felt it a few times today on the run but not too bad. Really not sure what it is. It seems like it's more when I think about how my foot is placing - or rather the placing of my foot. When I do it actively, it hurts...

Dead S.5

Haven't put any miles on these shoes in a while, but did some spring cleaning and decided to give them a toss. They lasted a while - not too bad for $28.00 shoes from Marshalls. Lots of wear and tear on the toes and heels. Ended up costing .04 cents a mile.

LRDT 8.55 6/27

Did an easy run today. Got confused with what I was doing before I started and ended up going up by the American Legion. Did ten laps around the LRDT - barefoot. Ankle felt okay. I think the shoes have something to do with it, then once it's aggravated it keeps going. Think it's tendonitis. See what happens. Kind of scary that it might be more debilitating later on...

Cep 6/25

New loop. Not sure I'll do it again, but... Just like typical Prison Pond loop, but ran the right of way to Weeden then back up the VAST trail back to Prison Pond. All just to go through an oak stand looking for some chantrelles. All to no avail. Go figure. Really high weeds though that slowed things down, a lot. Lots of hills, though they were noticeably easier than the first time I ran part of this loop. Also think it's easier going up County first. Wore my R2s. Ankle felt funky. Not awful, but noticeable. Outside of right foot, seems bruised. Trying to work on my downhill form but...

State Penn 6/22

Was going to go check the Oaks on top of Prison Pond Hill for Chantrelles, but got out a little late. Was too dark so just went straight instead of detouring up Prison Pond, another time. Wore my R3s. Ankle was a little sore with the shoes. But I didn't want to have to bail halfway through because my toe got all sore and bruised up. Gotta figure out this downhill thing. I tried to fix my form a bit so I wasn't sliding forward, but the turnover is so fast I feel like I'm going to fall on my face.

SSSB 6/20

Hot as balls out there today. Felt like Georgia all over again. Humidity ramped it up warmer. Wore the huraches. Feet felt okay, loosened up the straps a bit and that seemed to help. Though the toe strap still feels like it gouges into my foot and the ball of my foot feels swollen by the end of it. Calves are a bit tight, need to stretch them out a fair bit more.

Revised CHaD Season Plan

6/17 - Not doing the ADK Marathon or Half, so updating that. Going to toss in a time trial or two, and add a couple of quicker, short R-pace type workouts in Phase II. Probably come back to this in a few days. Going to ask Brother Coach for some advice.

6/7 - Putting together a season plan for CHaD. Was originally going to be the Turkey Trot, but with the baby on the way... I'm taking at least three weeks off after CBHM. Which puts my training start date on July 1st. Gives me 16 weeks of training. Think I'm going to do 5 for Phases III and IV and give six weeks to Phase II. We'll see how it goes. Ask Brother Coach what he thinks. Going to make some amendments to my CBHM plan, but most of it will probably remain the same. For the sake of leaving it all the same, I've just crossed out the weeks in Phases III and IV I'm going to nix. Phase III is a bit difficult. They all seem like good weeks. Phase IV was a bit easier to nix they the week with the acceleration run.

Dropped mileage pretty good this week. Got a pair of huraches for my birthday and started wearing them. Overall, I think this week went well. Calves a little sore from the lack of shoes, but I think the ankle feels better. Pretty pleased with the fact I dropped mileage as much as I did and didn't push things over the top. Hope I can do it again next week...

Kicked off the week with my long run. Wore the huraches. Felt pretty good until the end. They got wet and I slipped pretty good going up hill. The elastic kept giving in the heel and it felt like I was going to come out, so I tightened them pretty good. Think I tightened them too much as the webbing between my big toe and the rest on my left foot is pretty sore. Could also be a rock I stepped on and didn't notice. Think the hemp laces might be best...

Wasn't real sure about these, but the Wife got me a pair of huraches from Luna Sandals from Barefoot Ted's little company. At first I was a little skeptical, but after a couple of runs I think I like them. They feel enough like barefoot. Pretty sure I'm going to get another pair of them - custom fit this time. Not sure that I need the custom fit, but for an extra $15, I think it might be nice.
Hurache Running Sandals

Two complaints so far. Being that they have no uppers the rocks and grit get under your foot and the sole of the shoe. Normally when you're barefooting, this isn't a problem. The rocks just fall off your foot. Now they have something to get stuck between. For the most part they go away, but every now and then I'd have to stop and pick out a particularly sharp one that wouldn't go away. My other complaint is with the laces. The Wife got me the ATS elastic laces that they promote on the website. I have to try it again tomorrow, but I had to stop a few times to tighten the laces up. Not sure if its the laces just settling in, or if it's the elastic. If I get a custom set, I might just get the hemp laces.

So far I'm pretty pleased. Hope I'm pleased in a week or so.

Birthday Stroller 5.75 6/14

Not getting out tonight. Eating cheesecake instead. Did a stroller run. Nice and slow. 1.) Because I'm not pushing at all. 2.) Because I'm trying to rest my ankle. Ankle felt okay. Better than the other day. Friday's run will be the true test. Two more weeks after this to get better better, than it's CHaD training.

WTF 6/11

Awful, rotten, horrible, slow-ass, no good run. Not really sure what happened today. Tired from work the night before? Ended up going through Paradise Park and went super slow in some parts. Some of it was "running" up the escarpments... Not sure taking it easy is really going to help the ankle. Doesn't seem to be helping it so far. Stupid joints. Felt fine in the woods, but the crowned roads seemed to bugger it up good.

Barefoot Loops 6/8

Took the Little Guy out in the stroller for the first 1.5, and then he wanted to come home. Took him home and went back out. Ended up doing some barefoot loops around Lake Runnemede. Ankle felt fine, then put the crappy A.Bulls on and ankle was sore on the way home. Not sure if it was the barefoot, or the different foot movement. Next week think I might try to do a whole run barefoot and see how the ankle feels the day after if I wear the R3s.

CHaD Season Plan

Putting together a season plan for CHaD. Was originally going to be the Turkey Trot, but with the baby on the way... I'm taking at least three weeks off after CBHM. Which puts my training start date on July 1st. Gives me 16 weeks of training. Think I'm going to do 5 for Phases III and IV and give six weeks to Phase II. We'll see how it goes. Ask Brother Coach what he thinks. Going to make some amendments to my CBHM plan, but most of it will probably remain the same. For the sake of leaving it all the same, I've just crossed out the weeks in Phases III and IV I'm going to nix. Phase III is a bit difficult. They all seem like good weeks. Phase IV was a bit easier to nix they the week with the acceleration run.

CBHM 6/3

Awesome race today. Felt really confident going in, felt pretty good coming out. Got up real early to not miss the bus to the start. Ended up waiting around the start for a good hour plus. Didn't start at the front line, and only went for a short warm-up - less than a mile. Started in the second row. Went out slow - 5:50 - and kept pace pretty well. Popped one really slow mile 6:11, then ramped it up to a 5:37 and back to 5:50's after that. Almost had third, I was right behind him with a mile to go, and I just sort of fell off the pace or at least didn't keep with him. Still ran a nice PR. Also ran the first half either behind or next to a really fast girl. She ended up running a 1:17... Fast. Happy with my 1:16:43. Gonna have to push to do that at CHaD.
