Hard to get up early. Cold cold cold out. Took the flashlight but only used it a little bit. Actually kind of enjoyed this early morning run once I got off the busy roads - though they gave me time to get adjusted and warmed up. Felt like I really slowed down in the middle trudging up the hills.

Bannister Balls 10/22

Long run today. Out Hunt couple of West Windsor loops then back Hunt. Bad idea. Hunt sucks. Took some splits but managed to stop the watch at Coon Club on the way back. Only stopped it for a mile, but still annoying. Legs were dead on the way home. Trudged up the hills and really wanted to walk.

About an 1:15 in I ate some apples. Tart and juicy, really good. Back sore. Ankle sore. Knee sore. Tomorrow needs to be easy.

Octoberfest '13

Got out early this morning for an easy run with the wife. Felt pretty good. Did a mile warm-up for the race. Decided to wear my huaraches, and forgot my watch at home, again. Leaving the watch at home - I think - ended up being a good thing. I think if I would have seen some of my splits I would have gotten scared and slowed up.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the race. Picked some guys off. Felt like I kept pushing faster and mentally, I was totally there the whole time trying to push and grind. The finish is rough though and I had a hard time pushing myself any faster downhill. Ran a PR though and won my old man age group.

Started out as a pretty easy workout. Figured 200s and a few 400s should be okay. Left achilles felt kind of tight, but kept pushing. Should have stopped two into the second set of 200s. Paget! 10/7

Finally get out for a long run during the day. I can see the street signs, I know my way, and alas, the road on paper is not there in reality. Turns out Paget Road turns into a private driveway with a big sign that basically says "Turn the Eff Around!"

Three weeks running now my long runs have all been botched. Hamstring feeling good. Some soreness/tightness below the right ankle. Not sure what that is. Reminds me a little of the knock I was feeling winter/fall last year.

Had three eggs and a bit of cheese in a wrap at about 10:30. Cup of coffee in the morning. No water. Got thirsty at about 1:30, but not overly so.

J-Hill+ 10/4

Kind of pissed. Legs were definitely tired from yesterdays workout, but as the day went on I noticed my left hamstring was a bit tight when I'd go to sit down. Doing my best to listen, I went out for an easy run and noticed it was definitely sore beyond just a sore muscle. Opted to do a short easy run and really tried to slow it down. Don't think it will impact Octoberfest or CHaD, just have to make sure to really take it easy. Hopefully it will be fine by Sunday.

8x2K@T 10/3

Ugh. This run sucked. Up early, legs were tired - I think because they don't work well in the morning. Not a lot of sleep the night before. Was going to do 10x1600, but did 8x2000 instead. Same distance, just different intervals. Cut the rest down to 60 seconds instead of 1:15. First couple were fast, and then they all slowed down. Still about 5:50 pace though so that's what matters. Legs definitely tired and abused. Wore the AIs. Definitely doable. Want to get the Samsons.

4xMarton Hill 10/1

Had some I-pace stuff scheduled. Didn't feel like waiting until dark and figured hills were a better long-term choice regarding ultras, especially when the hill is part of the VT100 course... Not to mention it was a gorgeous afternoon. Almost made me want to stay here a bit.

The hill starts at the bottom of Marton and I took it to the first house on the left. Probably should cut it shorter in the future and stop at the driveway on the right. Plenty of time to push through the hill and work the flat. Shorter mileage might mean another rep too. It's probably 300 feet of elevation gain. Overall, today's total elevation gain was 1600 feet, not bad for 8 miles I guess. Also a bit slow as I ran with the family (they were on the bike) to the school.
